ECAT’s Teen Arts program will offer 10-week classes from September 13 – November 17, 2022. Any teen entering grades 9 – 12 and living in Erie County is eligible to attend.

Registration Details

Students entering grades 9 – 12 living in Erie County are eligible to attend.

There is no cost to attend class.

Class size is 8 students. Registration is first come, first serve.

Once a class is filled, students can be added to a waitlist. Students on the waitlist will be notified if they are in the class by September 8, 2022.

Classes take place in the ECAT art studios, located in the ECAT Building.

Registration opens Monday, May 2nd at 9 AM

TUESDAYS 5-7 PM

Clothing Design

Grades 9 – 12

Learn how clothing is made through hands-on projects using the sewing machine, computer pattern downloads, tiling and sizing. Create beginner projects like bucket hats and flannel pants. Then use your skills to thrift clothes and make alterations or custom projects.

Photography

Grades 9 – 12

Use professional cameras and lights to take pictures of landscapes, people and animals. Edit photos using professional software Lightroom and Photoshop.

2D Animation

Grades 9 – 12

Learn the fundamentals of 2D animation and create projects using Photoshop, Adobe Animate, and After Effects. Lots of class time is available to create a short, animated film.

Ceramics: Figurative Sculpture

Grades 9 – 12

Create sculptures of people using clay and other materials. Make lifelike portraits of real people or fictional characters from your favorite stories or imagination.

Wednesdays

WednesDAYS 5-7 PM

Interactive Art

Grades 9 – 12

Make your art move, light up or make sounds using coding and sensors. Use tools you don’t have at home like motors, LED lights, motion sensors and more to create things like robot puppets or lights that change color when you talk to them. Great for both experienced and beginner coders.

Writing & Storytelling

Grades 9 – 12

Learn to tell powerful stories. Evoke powerful emotions by learning to share your ideas, experiences, and life- lessons through stories both real and fictional.

3D Animation

Grades 9 – 12

Create 3D animations in the style of Pixar movies using Blender, a free animation software. Learn to make characters, animate and add sound. Lots of time to create your own animated short film.

Ceramics: Handbuilding

Grades 9 – 12

Clay can be molded, shaped and manipulated in infinite ways. In this class, students will learn the three major techniques of handbuilding with clay. Through the term, we will complete a project using each technique, culminating in a final project using all three handbuilding methods.

Printmaking

Grades 9 – 12

Make your own paper that you can use in future art projects. Then create prints of your favorite things like pets or friends. Or get experimental and creative with mixing colors and patterns. By the end of class, you will have a gazillion copies of your amazing art.

Filmmaking

Grades 9 – 12

Create a short documentary movie using professional cameras, lights and editing equipment. Point your camera at issues that matter to you and work in small teams to create a film that can be shared on YouTube or film festivals.

Pottery: Dining Sets

Grades 9 – 12

Create pottery that you can use at the dinner table. Learn to use the potters’ wheel and leave class with custom plates, bowls, containers and mugs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is transportation to and from ECAT provided? 

No. On days we go on field trips, ECAT transports students from ECAT to the field trip location, then back to ECAT. 

Will food be provided? 

A small snack is provided.

I have a job or other conflicts and will not be able to make it to every class. Can I still attend? 

We understand. Because classes are in high demand, it’s important to the team that you attend as many classes as possible. If you know that you will miss more than one class, we do not recommend registering. 

Do you offer afterschool programs for middle school students? 

Not at this time. If you are interested in middle school programs, let us know by completing our class request form
