This hands-on program, in partnership with Erie’s Public Schools, allows students to train as a carpenter’s apprentice in a state-of-the-art facility. Graduates are prepared to work in a variety of construction jobs.

Your Career in Construction

Carpenters are skilled tradespeople who work indoors and outdoors on many types of construction projects, from installing cabinetry to building infrastructure like highways and bridges. Those who are employed in the construction industry work predominantly on construction sites and are typically engaged in aspects of the industry other than design or finance.

Job Outlook

Pennsylvania is among the top 5 States with the highest employment level for carpenters. The average salary for a Carpenter in Pennsylvania is $ 25.71/hour.

Program Details

Successful students will graduate with a Carpenter’s Apprentice certificate through Carpenters International Training Fund.

Cost

Tuition is offered at no financial cost to any student.

Costs associated with uniform, driver’s license or PA State ID, and/or transcripts are the applicant’s responsibility.

Schedule

Classes meet Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Erie High School (3325 Cherry St, Erie, PA 16508) in the Construction Trades Shop. The program takes 9 months to complete.

The ECAT Construction program follows the Erie School District calendar. All District Holidays, Shutdowns, and Non-attendance Days are observed.

Program Requirements

To participate in the ECAT Construction program you must:

  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Be a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania.
  • Have a high school diploma or equivalent (GED)
